1. INTRODUCTION / BACKGROUND
The Faculty of Social and Management Sciences is one of the three foundation Faculties of the University. At inception of the University, it had four (4) Departments, namely:
(i) Accounting, Banking and Finance
(ii) Economics and Business Administration
(iii) Human Communications and Sociological Applications.
(iv) Sociological Applications
These Departments later evolved into six Departments in the fifth year of the University’s existence and by 2014 the number had increased to seven (7).
The seven Departments of the Faculty are:
(ii) Banking and Finance
(iii) Business Administration
(v) Mass Communication
(vi) Political Science
In the current academic session, 2014/2015, student enrolment represents about 39% of the University’s total student population. It therefore has the largest student enrolment in the University.
Late Professor E.O. Ogunjinmi was the founding Dean and was succeeded by Professor D.S. Izevbaye, while the current Dean is Professor Akinola A. Owosekun, a Professor of Economics.

3. ADMISSION POLICY
1.3 General Entry Requirements
Candidates for admission into the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences must possess at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics in addition to specific Departmental requirements.
3.2 Admission Requirements
(a) ‘O’ Level Subjects
The five ‘O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, one other Social Science subject and any other subject.
(b) UTME Subjects
English Language, Mathematics, Economics plus any other Social Science subject.
(c) Direct Entry
At least two passes at GCE ‘A’ Level to include Economics and any of Government, Geography, Mathematics, Business Method, Commerce, Financial Accounting, History or IJMB/JUPEB/NCE/ND/ATS of ICAN or approved equivalent. HND holders in relevant discipline.
4.0 ACHIVEMENT SINCE INCEPTION
(i) Full accreditation of all the programmes in the Faculty
(ii) Commencement of Postgraduate programmes in all the Departments except Political Science.
(iii) Organization of one-day Seminar on the National Conference/Dialogue and submission of Seminar report to the Conference Secretariat.

Awaiting re-accreditation of some programmes in the Faculty by the National Universities Commission.
